Helderberg Village

How this was made

A 3D flyover by BeforeTheRun, built from public data with its own golf engine. It isn't made or endorsed by Helderberg Village Golf Club; the logo, card and visitor details are the club's own, from its website.

• Imagery. Esri World Imagery (Esri, Maxar, Earthstar Geographics), about 25 cm a pixel on the course. The photo was taken in the morning, so the film is lit as an early-morning round with the sun where the photo has it.
• Elevation. Copernicus GLO-30, a 30 m satellite model. The course's rises and falls are real (the third drops more than 20 m); the slopes on a green are not shown, because a green fits inside one 30 m cell.
• Course. Greens, tees, fairways, bunkers and ponds from OpenStreetMap; the 7th green, which OpenStreetMap is missing, drawn from the imagery. Which tee and green belong to each hole was worked out from the imagery and the card. Shaping (greens lifted, bunkers dished, ponds levelled) is cosmetic, not surveyed.
• Card. Pars, lengths and stroke index from Golfify and GolfPass (yards, shown in metres). The front nine is flown from the yellow tees; alternate tees make an eighteen-hole round.
• Shots. Planned the way a good club golfer manages the course: each club's real spread, mishits, trees in the way and the cost of sand and water, worked out over the whole hole.
• Trees and homes. Trees found in the imagery (kinds and heights are a guess); buildings from Overture Maps. Narration voiced with ElevenLabs, music by Google Lyria, live wind from Open-Meteo.
• Visits. Counted anonymously (country, device, where you came from, how far you got): no cookies, no personal data.
